SCHIZOPHRENIA??

Body

According to language definition, Schizophrenia is descended from “Schizo” means break or crack and “phrenia” means soul. Hence, Schizophrenia is a soul break of someone. From Wikipedia we can find that Schizophrenia is a serious mental illness characterized by a disintegration of the process of thinking and of emotional responsiveness. While, in Illustrated nurse’s Dictionary schizophrenia is psychotic disorder characterized by lost of contact with the environment. The Schizophrenia definition summary from several article related to it is a chronic, severe, paralyze functional psychotic illness such as mental disorder which is happen repeatedly.

If you had ever seen person like in the picture, do not consider he is a schizophrenic. You have to learn some points which make you sure for your guess. I found pieces of schizophrenia information that was known by some common people like the causes, the symptoms and the treatments.

First information is about the causes. Some people say that the causes of schizophrenia are parent, children, career, serious pain, sex abuse, pressure of anything we passed, takes a lot of calm drug like amphetamine, pregnancy complication etc. whereas, according to author and psychiatrist of schizophrenia, Bertram P. Karon PhD, the cause of schizophrenia is parent. They act without pay attention in kid’s need whereas kid’s need is in contradiction with parents want. The other experts think schizophrenia is caused by several factors, Genes and environment; Scientists have long known that schizophrenia runs in families. The illness occurs in 1 percent of the general population, but it occurs in 10 percent of people who have a first-degree relative with the disorder, such as a parent, brother, or sister. People who have second-degree relatives (aunts, uncles, grandparents, or cousins) with the disease also develop schizophrenia more often than the general population. The risk is highest for an identical twin of a person with schizophrenia. He or she has a 40 to 65 percent chance of developing the disorder. Another cause is different brain chemistry and structure. Scientists think there are imbalance reactions of the brain involving the neurotransmitters dopamine and glutamate, and possibly others. in small ways the brains of people with schizophrenia look different than those of healthy people. For example, fluid-filled cavities at the center of the brain, called ventricles, are larger in some people with schizophrenia. The brains of people with the illness also tend to have less gray matter, and some areas of the brain may have less or more activity.

Then, second basic information is the symptoms of schizophrenic. A woman told me her son is often to do some strange behavior such as cry when he is happy and laugh when he is sad. He becomes an annoying, Impolite, and unkind boy. He starts it when he was 16 years old. The woman deems her son just in adaptation to be adult man. But she knows she is wrong recently. Psychiatrist said that people diagnosed with schizophrenia usually experience a combination of positive (i.e. hallucinations, delusions, racing thoughts), negative (i.e. apathy, lack of emotion, poor or nonexistent social functioning), and cognitive (disorganized thoughts, difficulty concentrating and/or following instructions, difficulty completing tasks, memory problems).

The last thing you need to know is the treatments. Hundred inhabitant in Garut, West Java, asked to their family who suffers from schizophrenia to sit down on the ground and they lock suffer’s legs like a criminal. Absolutely, it is a sadden view that I never seen before. They should not do it if they know the better way to cure suffers. They have to carry a loved one to the mental hospital for a better help. In the emergency room, a mental health professional will assess the patient and determine whether a voluntary or involuntary admission is needed. After that the professional will make a diagnosis. Then he or she starts a treatment program. There are 4 kinds of treatments at least.
1. Biological treatment : giving antipsychotic drug, liver oil
2. Social and psychological treatment: exercise of speaking skill, manage
her/him self, group therapy, work skill, etc.
3. Family therapy : it train the family how to face a loved
one in order to do not relapse.
4. Traditional healing : within incantation, custom ceremony,
and many more depended on local culture.

After you know points which explained before, you may think some possible way to deal with schizophrenic. The ways are not difficult but you must be careful. I will tell you the way here.
First, when you meet schizophrenics and have a chance to talking with them, please avoid talking about their illness. Many schizophrenics have a hard time accepting their illness. Not only do they want to feel "normal," but also schizophrenia is one of the more complex mental illnesses. It is harder to lead a normal life with schizophrenia and many sufferers cannot consistently stay on medication to manage it. Therefore, they avoid talking about it with anyone outside of their inner circle or medical team. So, if at all possible, avoid the topic unless they bring it up first.

Then, being respectful, supportive, and kind without tolerating dangerous or inappropriate behavior is the best way to approach people with this disorder. Remember that these beliefs or hallucinations seem very real to the person. It is not helpful to say they are wrong or imaginary. But going along with the delusions is not helpful, either. Instead, calmly say that you see things differently. Tell them that you acknowledge that everyone has the right to see things his or her own way.

Invite them to go to psychological instance as soon as possible. Take a calm and cool way. Try with a conversation first because mentally ill people are also mostly quite intelligent and able to hold a conversation. Do not hold intrusive eye contact, do not raise your voice, and never ever make threatening movements.

Get help when an episode occurs. Only trained mental health specialists truly understand what to do with a schizophrenic is having an episode. If you find yourself in a situation with someone undergoing hallucinations or making threats or accusations, don't engage them. Instead, seek help from their doctor or psychiatrist or even a friend or family member with some experience dealing with the person.
